After an incredible conversation with Huw Stephens, we are excited to announce our next guest: Jenny Kaufman, Head of Digital Strategy at Terrorbird Media. Taking a creative and authentic approach to digital promotion, Jenny’s role centres around helping artists and their teams with digital release strategy and playlist pitching. Jenny will join us live from one of her favourite spots in Brooklyn, Baby’s All Right who along with Terrorbird Media are partnering with Byta on this month’s event.
This is a new monthly online event that will be presented in two parts:

This series is designed to deliver the knowledge to enable tomorrow’s artists and industry leaders to better manoeuvre their way through the music ecosystem. Providing a fun Q&A along the way!
#HowWeListen Live: In Conversation will be hosted by Byta’s founder, Marc Brown, whose deep music business background and digital audio knowledge have helped him deliver unique insights to audiences from Tallinn to Toronto. Marc is a former label owner, manager and radio plugger.

Event Format
#HowWeListen Live (part 1):
The workshop will introduce industry insights that Marc has picked up from his work in A&R departments, running his own radio promotion company, plus years of experience managing artists and significant large scale projects. Some of the topics he will touch on include artists’ teams, timelines and connecting the web of the music industry. Plus, most importantly, tips on what you can do yourself to better increase the chances of your success.
#HowWeListen In Conversation (part 2):
Each event will feature an in-depth one-to-one conversation. This time we get digital, with marketing strategist Jenny Kaufman. Her goal is to instil a meaningful approach to digital marketing. Marc will explore how Jenny’s commitment to authenticity informs her ability to successfully market the music and musicians she works with.
Jenny will provide her expertise on streaming and do some myth-busting when it comes to how playlists actually work. In a crowded and noisy digital landscape, she will offer tips on how best to remain authentic and meaningful while simultaneously getting a clear message out to as many people as possible.

Jenny Kaufman is the Head of Digital Strategy at Terrorbird Media, a boutique music marketing firm with offices in Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Sacramento. Consistent with the Terrorbird mentality, Jenny emphasizes a creative and authentic approach to digital promotion, facilitating meaningful positioning and support from online partners and digital storefronts. In her time at Terrorbird, Jenny has facilitated campaigns for Toro y Moi (Carpark Records), Jay Som (Polyvinyl Records), Cloud Nothings (Carpark Records), and Hatchie (Double Double Whammy) among others. Previously at Glassnote Records, Jenny promoted releases from Childish Gambino, Phoenix, and CHVRCHES. When she isn’t nerding-out about the ever-evolving digital landscape, Jenny is recharging with her three-legged tuxedo cat, Scooter.

After working in A&R at the legendary London indie Creation Records, then at Alan McGee’s Poptones, Marc started his own boutique UK radio promotion company off the back of his success with The Hives. For over 10 years Marc worked with an impressive list of indie rock luminaries including Wilco, Bloc Party, Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes, Spoon and Refused as well as legends such as Tom Waits, Yoko Ono, Booker T and Mavis Staples.
Marc currently lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
