Boost Collective

I’m just a down-to-earth guy who loves everything in the music industry. Aside from helping artists and labels increase their catalogue equity through promotion and artist management - you can catch me at the local skatepark hitting treflips!

Where are you based?

I’m based out in Ontario, Canada. Just shy of an hour out of Toronto.

Where do you work? What do you do?

I love this question. Currently, I do many different things as the Creative Director of Boost Collective! A few things such as (Client marketing campaign management, Social Media Strategy, Catalogue Management, SEO Blogging, etc.)

What are you listening to?

These days I listen to a lot of Canadian hip hop, specifically Toronto artists.

These artists:

How do you discover new music?

I generally find new music on Spotify discovery, ironically also through SoundCloud. Over 10 years of SoundCloud usage has really tailored my music feed haha. I also listen to practically any song recommended to me. Word of mouth is killer. Of course, I listen to our clients’ music and add whatever I like.

“I also listen to practically any song recommended to me. Word of mouth is killer.”

What formats do you usually listen to? LP, CD, Cassette, Digital, Streaming Services? Why?

I haven’t bought a CD in over 10 years. The last time I bought physical music was… An iTunes gift card, so that I could afford Kanye’s Yeezus album on my iPod. Currently, I pop in my AirPods and play music directly from either Spotify or Apple Music.

Where do you do most of your music listening?

I’m a big podcast guy when out of the house. My music time is often when I’m doing menial home tasks (cooking, cleaning… Even while I’m showering, I have my JBL Speakers playing some Drake songs.)

How do you find and listen to pre-release music?

I generally listen to leaks I find on SoundCloud or YouTube.

What are your frustrations with listening to music digitally? Any benefits?

I’m not a fan of the fact that I don’t actually own the music. Even iTunes doesn’t have ALL the songs that Spotify has, so I am forced to stream. Ideally, I want to buy my music individually.

How do you keep track of everything you are listening to?

I have both a subscription to Apple Music and Spotify. Really I only use Spotify for work. I don’t organise based on mood or genre – I organise based on the activity in which I use the music (example: workout, study, office grind, sex, etc.)

Do you tip other people off to new music? How?

Word of mouth is huge! I send music tracks to my close friends every single day. Usually, it’s tracks that I promote but I often discover new stuff on SoundCloud and YouTube!

Anything you want to “promote”?

The #1 song I would like to promote is WASTEYUTES by King Bread!
