How do you discover new music?

Spotify editorial playlists are a great way to be exposed to new bands and music without doing a heap of work yourself, You can just put a playlist on shuffle and more than likely you will hear something new. However, by the time an artist gets added to playlists they are usually established, to find the latest up-and-coming artists I look at the most trustworthy blogs in each genre, for example, AUD’$ is the leading HipHop platform in Australia, and have always had their finger on the pulse when it comes to new artists.

What formats do you usually listen to? LP, CD, Cassette, Digital, Streaming Services? Why?

Streaming because I can’t plug in a record player at the gym.

“I don’t really care what the system is, I’ve been around tunes enough to understand the system doesn’t make or break the song, it’s just the medium to play it on. “

Where do you do most of your music listening?

Literally EVERYWHERE! From waking up, then going to the gym, then going to the studio…there is literally music always going on. I can’t stand silence, I need music even if it’s to go to sleep. I don’t really care what the system is, I’ve been around tunes enough to understand the system doesn’t make or break the song, it’s just the medium to play it on. If I really want to check the sonics I will head into the main control room on my own and just sit and listen on a system that my ears know well.

How do you find and listen to pre-release music?

I’m fortunate enough to be friends with a lot of bands and artists I listen to, so they usually send me their stuff before it’s released….perks of the job!

What are your frustrations with listening to music digitally? Any benefits?

Of course, ads suck, but in comparison to what it was like before the digital age, it’s not even close! We can listen to music literally anywhere with wireless headphones and people will still complain…

How do you keep track of everything you are listening to?

Spotify liked songs and playlists.

Do you tip other people off to new music? How?

Talking in person, if we start talking and I think there’s a band you should know about I will let you know! Occasionally I will listen to something new and be like ‘DAMN, I need to let this person know about this track/album and then I will link them via socials.
