I\u2019m the founder of Bayonet Records<\/a> and Director of A&R at Secretly Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are you listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This very second I\u2019m listening to Chelsea Wolfe<\/a>. More generally speaking I\u2019ve been listening to a lot of Turnstile<\/a>, Pouya<\/a>, Disq<\/a> and Kacey Musgraves. Also been listening to \u201cDoorman<\/a>\u201d by slowthai x Mura Masa on repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you find new music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s honestly such a combination. Getting suggestions from friends, getting to shows early to see the opening band. Seeing a friend post about a new band on instagram. Emails from managers too, but personally I prefer to see it live or have a friend who I trust recommend something to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What formats do you usually listen to? LP, CD, Cassette, Digital, Streaming Service and why?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Streaming, vinyl, cassettes<\/a>, CDs in that order. The reason being mobility! The way I consume music is directly related to where I am in the moment and where I\u2019m going. Streaming is easy to listen to when you\u2019re walking around the city. Usually when I have people over my house I\u2019ll put vinyl on. When I\u2019m in the shower I listen to cassettes. And lastly when I\u2019m in a car I usually pop on a CD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where do you do most of your music listening?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a slightly boring answer, but I think I do most of my listening at my desk on my computer at work or walking around on my phone. I like being able to walk around and listen to music in my headphones by myself. The way I feel listening to music walking around is very different than when I\u2019m listening in a car or at my house. Different settings, the time of day, the weather, your mental state all change the way you interpret music you hear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do find and listen to pre-release music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It depends! Sometimes I\u2019ll just get mastered versions of an album we\u2019re putting out. Obviously I get a LOT of those as a result of what I do for a living. However, outside of work stuff I usually get sent watermarked downloads<\/a> or private streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your frustrations with listening to music digitally? Any benefits?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think the benefit again is mobility and being able to listen to music on the go. As far as frustrations for me it would be not being able to listen to something on a streaming platform when I don\u2019t have good service. I try to put the stuff I want to listen to later offline. Another frustration is the lack of transparency on the backend of payments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you keep track of everything you are listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I just have an ongoing massive playlist of things I\u2019m listening to. And anything not on a playlist I just have download of on my phone or have saved on Youtube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you tip other people off to new music? How?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Usually if it\u2019s something I like, but am not signing I\u2019ll send to other friends who might dig it via text\/email\/insta. Or if it\u2019s a project I\u2019m working on I\u2019ll just post about it on my stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
