What do you do?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a work-from-home self-employed web developer and designer who builds marketing campaigns and products in music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are you listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Madvillainly on repeat like it is 2004 again. Healthy mix of Cass McCombs, Blake Mills, Kurt Vile, Kevin Morby, and Mac DeMarco. Khruangbin when I need to chill or do design work. Port St. Willow when I\u2019m writing. A Tribe Called Quest radio when I go for a run. Stan Weyes Blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do you discover new music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Truthfully I learn about a lot of new music when I get hired to work it. \ud83d\ude05 When Khruangbin and I <a href=\"https:\/\/leemartin.medium.com\/come-fly-the-funky-skies-with-khruangbin-7c08ea9930a3\">originally<\/a> worked together, I didn\u2019t even know who they were. Then all of my hip friends were like, YEH LEE THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING. A new client might spark interest in a new genre and then I\u2019ll use Spotify or Apple Music to do some discovery in the space. Honestly, I stopped reading music editorials a decade ago. \ud83e\udd37\ud83c\udffb\u200d\u2642\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Honestly, I stopped reading music editorials a decade ago.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What formats do you usually listen to? LP, CD, Cassette, Digital, Streaming Services? Why?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I do the bulk of my listening while working or exercising so that happens digitally, usually via Spotify. When I\u2019m not next to my computer, I\u2019m typically consuming another form of media like films or books. However, I have this little bicycle speaker that appears during social events here in New Orleans like Mardi Gras. It is currently collecting dust because of Covid but I look forward to bringing it out again. I owned a beautiful cassette player and a healthy collection of soundtrack cassettes which I would cook to but the player died on me. \u2639\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where do you do most of your music listening?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I have a nice Sonos setup but do the majority of my listening in a pair of AIAIAI headphones or just right through my iMac Pro. I have a pair of Beats Pro earphones for running and I hate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do you find and listen to pre-release music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, I\u2019m sent a lot of stuff I\u2019m working on before it is released so I have the opportunity to hear stuff that way, usually via protected links. I also love a good NPR first listen session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are your frustrations with listening to music digitally? Any benefits?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The only issue with listening to music digitally is that the streaming services\u2019 software isn\u2019t very social. It\u2019s very much a solo endeavour from a digital standpoint and I try to make up for that gap in my client work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do you keep track of everything you are listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t. \ud83d\ude05<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Do you tip other people off to new music? How?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yeh, mostly my family. We have a running iMessage group and I\u2019ll drop a Spotify link on occasion. While I don\u2019t typically get a response in the group, I do find out later that they were listening to it. I have converted a sibling or two and have been converted myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Anything you want to \u201cpromote\u201d?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I write about a lot of my work on my <a href=\"https:\/\/leemartin.medium.com\/\">Medium<\/a>. Besides my ongoing work as a freelance marketer in music, I\u2019m also building a platform which allows artists and podcast creators to throw listening parties for their fans.
