Where do you work? What do you do?<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I work in Collingwood out of the music market which is a music industry co-work space. I am the Owner and Artist Manager at JY Management Group, podcast host at Your Music, Your Business and the Founder of Releasr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JY Management Group<\/a> specializes in building the careers of musicians through consulting, mentorship and education programs, digital marketing, artist management and event management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Your Music, Your Business’ is a podcast for musicians and music industry professionals. Giving our listeners the chance to hear what others in the music industry are saying about their specialised fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Releasr<\/a>. Is a new startup aiming to centralise and automate music releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are you listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Right now, came to me through the Drax Project<\/a>. I\u2019ve been listening to a LOT of one of the new artists –  Evergreener<\/a>, as we have been working on their release that just came out this week called Sinking. I know every word by now!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you discover new music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I discover new music through curated playlists – either editorial or business playlists. Usually, ones with a theme\/vibe listed because I am definitely someone that loves to listen to music to make me feel a particular way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also discover a lot of new music by going to many live shows and getting down early for the support acts. My favourite place to find new music however is through my friend’s Instagram stories. They will share their top releases that week and if I see the same new song pop up among some of my other friends I will give it a listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What formats do you usually listen to? LP, CD, Cassette, Digital, Streaming Services? Why?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I definitely stream everything so far! I am starting to just now collect Vinyl and really, that started because some of my clients started to press their vinyl and I just HAD to have the project I worked so hard on in my house somewhere. I\u2019d personally love to have a HUGE vinyl collection one day and find a way of slipping cassettes into the mix as well. There is just something about cassettes! It just seems like it should be big vibes right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where do you do most of your music listening?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I do most of my listening in the car or while working. I\u2019m ashamed to say I listen to my music through AirPods mainly. I really should have a whole stereo set-up but it\u2019s really hard to have that in the house I currently share. Maybe when I get my own house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you find and listen to pre-release music?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I like to listen to pre-release music on the radio or through online premieres. Because I am so busy trying to build careers for my musicians, however, I tend to not hear the music before it comes out. I\u2019m lucky if I get to it on release day really!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your frustrations with listening to music digitally? Any benefits?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I hate getting SoundCloud<\/a> links, for some reason, I just don’t like the platform functionality. I would much rather have a google drive link with the music within it and listen to that while I am looking through the artist\u2019s socials for more of an idea of what they are like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you keep track of everything you are listening to?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Usually, if I get new music sent to me and I want to hear it again, I will set it as unread and send it to snooze for when I think I will need it again. If it\u2019s on Spotify I will like it or send it to my Facebook Messenger so that I have a spot for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you tip other people off to new music? How?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Usually, I’ll send them the Spotify link to wherever as I talk with them and send a message that’s like, \u201cOMG you need to listen to this!\u201d haha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anything you want to \u201cpromote\u201d?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Evergreener, Kwasi and Marigolden are my current management clients, and yes,  I work with them because their music is just AMAZING. I back it so much, hence working with them for management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evergreener\u2019s only one single and an EP into their career and if you are a fan of 90\u2019s style music videos, go give their Decidious<\/a> or Sinking<\/a> music videos a look. They DIY\u2019d them on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
