Sharing – Protected Links
Last modified on January 12th, 2023 at 4:32 am
We understand that there are occasions where you will require extra security but need to have access to a quickly shareable link. For those times, Protected Links come into play. This Share type works in the same manner as Universal Links by generating a unique URL for the share but forces all visitors of the link to signup for a free Byta account to access the audio securely. Protected Links allow you access to secure audio sharing and greater visibility of who is listening to your audio.
Secure Audio Sharing with Protected Links
Setting Restrictions
Choosing Protected Links as a share type allows you the complete set of Restrictions as they are associated with specific users. Read more about Sharing Restrictions in our article “Restrictions Explained”.
“Require Account” is set to default for this Share type. If you don’t wish for users to require an account, please use Universal or Direct Links instead.
Users who pay for Watermarking can add watermarking to Protected Links as recipients must sign up for an account.
Customise URL
Protected Links allow you to customise the URL that you can then share with your Users, making it easier for you and your recipients to identify the link. The form field allows you to specify what displays at the end of the Byta.com URL. It will contain an autogenerated suggestion of “artist-and-album-name” you can edit as required.
Add Message
All shares allow you to add a short message displayed as part of the share. If you wish to add more information to your share, we recommend attaching a PDF at the next step.
Add Attachments
You can add attachments (1 for Free Plan, 3 for all paid plans) to your share via the attachment section.
Read more about attachments here.
Review and Create a Link
Once you have completed these steps, check over the overview and click “Create Protected Link”. The link will be sent to your email once complete. You can also access the link via your Activity page for future sharing. If you have uploaded audio as part of the share, please note that this step can take a short while.
